Howdy, Hutto. I’m writing to you from a cruise ship in the middle of the Gulf, so apologies for any last-minute news I may have missed this week. I’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming next week, but for now we’re taking a moment to recognize Cinco de Mayo with care, community, and a reminder to support the local spots that help make Hutto feel like home.

PSA: Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10! Shoutout to all the amazing moms in Hutto — we appreciate you!

Cinco de Mayo 2026 in Hutto

Rio Grande Tex Mex Restaurant

Cinco de Mayo is often misunderstood, but at its heart, it marks the Mexican army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 — not Mexican Independence Day, which is celebrated in September. It is a day rooted in resilience, pride and the power of a community standing strong against the odds.

Here in Hutto, where Hispanic and Latino neighbors are an important part of our city’s story, Cinco de Mayo is a chance to celebrate culture with care: through music, food, family and connection, while remembering the history behind the day. It is not about stereotypes or turning heritage into a theme; it is about honoring the people, traditions and stories that help make Hutto feel like home.

It is also a great reminder to support the local Mexican restaurants, shops and small businesses that bring so much flavor, hospitality and heart to our community all year long. Whether you are picking up tacos, grabbing pan dulce, ordering dinner from a family-owned spot or simply choosing local first, days like this are a meaningful way to show up for the businesses and neighbors who help make Hutto special.

Hutto Hippos Athletics

It was a tough ending for the Lady Hippos, whose playoff run came to a close last week after a 6-5 loss to the Clark Cougars in San Antonio, but there is still so much to be proud of from this season. As District and Bi-District Champions, the team gave Hippo Nation plenty to celebrate and represented Hutto with heart, grit and a whole lot of talent.

In athletics news, Hutto ISD is welcoming Mrs. Delgado as the new Head Athletic Trainer. She previously served student athletes in Madisonville and Conroe, and most recently worked as a Clinical Athletic Trainer with Baylor Scott & White in Round Rock — we’re excited to have her here in Hutto.

And as the school year winds down, we want to send a big congratulations to all the student athletes who represented Hippo Nation this year. Win or lose, your hard work, dedication and school pride made Hutto proud.
