Howdy, Hutto. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but we’ve got some pretty big developing news on our hands.

More than a month ago, we wrote about Blue Origin possibly eyeing Hutto for a Central Texas expansion. Well, guess what? There’s more information now… and somehow, still plenty we don’t know.

Project Blue Hub is very much moving forward in Hutto, with a pretty obvious wink-wink, nudge-nudge connection to Blue Origin. I’ve got a full breakdown down below of what the city has approved, what’s still pending, and what it could mean for Hutto.

We’ve also got some exciting news from the Hutto Area Chamber of Commerce, which is planning a new permanent home in Historic Downtown Hutto.

And of course, it’s a big week for Hippo Nation: school starts back up Wednesday. To all the students, teachers, staff and parents heading into a new year, best of luck. And to everyone else… yes, that means school traffic is officially back, too.

New Chamber HQ | The Hutto Area Chamber of Commerce plans to build a permanent headquarters in Historic Downtown Hutto as the Hutto EDC acquires its longtime East Street building, with more details and a project timeline still to come.

Project Blue Hub | Hutto approved incentive agreements for a proposed $650 million, 1.3-million-square-foot manufacturing project that could create more than 2,000 jobs, with Blue Origin widely linked to the deal but not yet publicly confirmed as the company behind it.

Bus Route Changes | Hutto ISD has revamped bus routes for the 2026–27 school year by consolidating and relocating some stops, reducing rail crossings and high-traffic areas, and launching My Ride K-12 for live bus tracking, with routes still subject to changes during the first two weeks of school.

A proposed $650 million project could bring more than 2,000 jobs to Hutto, but the company and the cost of landing it still aren’t officially public.

Something potentially very big is happening on Hutto’s economic-development front.

Last Thursday, the Hutto City Council and Hutto Economic Development Corporation approved incentives for Project Blue Hub, a proposed 1.3 million-square-foot manufacturing, research, warehouse, and logistics operation expected to represent more than $650 million in investment and create more than 2,000 jobs over five years. Those jobs are projected to carry an average annual salary of about $88,000.

And yes: multiple reports say the company behind it is Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company.

There’s just one important catch.

Blue Origin has not officially announced that it is coming to Hutto.

The company has been linked to Project Blue Hub since May, when Hutto EDC first publicly discussed incentives for the project. Austin Business Journal reported that multiple sources identified Blue Origin as the company behind the code name, and a Blue Origin government-relations representative attended last week’s meeting. But negotiations are still underway, and neither the company nor the city has publicly confirmed a final site selection.

The Aug. 6 vote means Hutto has formally approved an economic-development incentive agreement designed to help secure Project Blue Hub. City Council approved the deal 5-2.

What we don’t know yet is how much that incentive package is worth or exactly what Hutto has promised.

Hutto says its economic-development agreements are performance-based, with qualifications, conditions, and requirements spelled out in formal agreements. But the Project Blue Hub agreement itself has not been made public, meaning residents still don't know the incentive amount, payment structure or specific benchmarks the company must meet.

That makes one part of this story easy to evaluate and another part much harder.

More than 2,000 jobs paying an average of $88,000 would give Hutto something communities across Central Texas compete aggressively for: a major employer offering skilled, higher-paying jobs.

A $650 million industrial investment could also add significantly to Hutto’s commercial tax base and potentially attract suppliers and other companies connected to the region’s growing aerospace and advanced-manufacturing sector.

And despite the name involved, this does not appear to be about launching rockets from Hutto. The publicly described project is a manufacturing, R&D, warehouse, and logistics campus. Blue Origin already operates launch and testing facilities elsewhere, including West Texas and Florida.

The biggest is what Hutto is giving up to land the deal.

Economic incentives can make sense when the jobs, investment and tax revenue outweigh their cost. But until the agreement becomes public, residents can't independently judge that math.

There are also the usual realities that come with a development this large: more traffic, additional infrastructure needs, demand for housing and potentially new public-safety and utility requirements.

Those aren't necessarily reasons to oppose the project. They're reasons to understand the full deal.

And as of Tuesday, the story is still moving: Hutto EDC had Project Blue Hub back on its Aug. 10 executive-session agenda, meaning negotiations remain active even after last week’s vote.

If Project Blue Hub delivers the investment and jobs being discussed, it could become one of the most significant economic-development wins Hutto has landed.

But we aren't quite at “Blue Origin is coming to Hutto” yet.

For now, Hutto has made its offer and approved the deal on its side of the table. The next big milestone is a formal company announcement, along with the public release of enough details to understand what Hutto agreed to in return.

Charter Vote Moves to May | Council voted 7-0 not to place the proposed City Charter amendments on the November ballot, with plans to bring the proposals back Oct. 1 for further work toward a possible May election.

Stromberg PUD Gets Flexibility | Council approved a 7-0 amendment for the roughly 372-acre Stromberg property near East Wilco Highway, allowing future plans to pursue a mix of industrial and residential uses, mostly residential with neighborhood commercial, or potentially all industrial; the developer will still need to return with additional changes once a final development plan is chosen.

School-Week Road Work | Council discussed traffic concerns around the CR 137, FM 1660 South and Brooklands-area projects ahead of the new school year, with staff saying the next construction start would be delayed until about a week after school begins.

Fire Service Talks Continue | As negotiations with Williamson County ESD No. 3 continue, Council voted 7-0 to direct staff to request an election involving a proposed 80/20 sales-tax split between the entities.

West Nile Reminder | Williamson County & Cities Health District reported that seven mosquito pools in Hutto had tested positive for West Nile and encouraged residents to use mosquito repellent, especially during early morning and evening hours.

Summer is basically over and the Hippos are ready for their first season under head coach Casey Walraven. If you didn’t know: Hutto opens the season with a home game against Manor on August 20, followed by the regular-season opener against Harker Heights on August 28 at Hutto Memorial Stadium.
