The Road Hutto’s Been Missing

East Wilco Highway

If you haven’t been driving past it regularly, it’s easy to overlook just how much progress is happening on the East WilCo Highway, but this project is quietly shaping Hutto’s future in a big way. For years, growth across southeast Hutto and eastern Williamson County has outpaced the narrow county roads built for a much smaller population, leaving residents and commuters navigating routes that were never meant for today’s demand. East WilCo changes that.

Planned as a controlled-access corridor stretching from SH 130 toward I-35 near Jarrell, this roadway is designed to become a major north-south artery for the east side of the county. What looks like a simple two-lane road today is only the beginning; long-term plans call for multiple lanes, frontage roads, overpasses, and the kind of infrastructure needed to move both people and industry efficiently through the region.

And with the Samsung facility rising just minutes away in Taylor, expected to bring thousands of jobs and accelerate development across the area, the importance of this project only grows. We’ve already seen how SH 130 helped transform Hutto and the surrounding region, East WilCo has the potential to do the same for the next wave of growth. It’s still years from full completion, but the direction is clear.

Hutto Hippos Athletics

The Hutto High School Lady Hippos are building serious momentum as they head into the Area Playoffs, coming off a commanding series victory that follows the program’s first-ever 6A district title. With clutch hitting, solid defense, and a strong team-first approach, they’re showing they have what it takes for a deep postseason run, with Clark up next.
