Howdy, Hutto. If you’re anything like me, you’ve driven past Adam Orgain Park on CR 137 lately and wondered, Okay… what exactly is going on over there? The road is torn up, there’s equipment and materials everywhere, and some parts of the project seem to start, stop, and start again.
So, I decided to dig into it. Turns out there’s a lot more happening along that stretch than meets the eye — road widening, major drainage work, changes near Farley Middle School, and a future roundabout at CR 137 and FM 1660. I broke it all down for you below.
We’ve also got a busy week around town. This may be one of the longest Events sections we’ve had yet, which is a pretty great problem to have. There’s a little bit of everything happening in Hutto this week, and it’s nice to see more reasons to stay close to home for something fun to do.
As always, thanks for stopping by and spending a few minutes with me this week.

What’s Going On Around Adam Orgain Park?
That mess of dirt, equipment, and torn-up roadway along CR 137 is part of a much bigger road-and-drainage overhaul.

If you’ve driven past Adam Orgain Park lately and thought, What in the world are they doing out here? — you’re probably not alone.
There is a lot happening along CR 137 between Brushy Creek, Farley Middle School, and FM 1660. But the big project behind most of what you’re seeing isn’t actually a park renovation. It’s an approximately $11.3 million rebuild of CR 137 and the intersection at FM 1660.
The CR 137/FM 1660 roadway project includes about 0.82 miles of CR 137, stretching from just north of Brushy Creek to FM 1660. The road is being widened, a center turn lane is being added, and crews are also building new curb-and-gutter, pedestrian, and drainage improvements.
In other words: this is a lot more than fresh pavement.

CR 137 Roadway and Drainage Improvements
A big part of that digging is drainage
One of the biggest changes is happening underneath and alongside the road.
Widening CR 137 means changing how stormwater moves through the area, so drainage work is a significant part of the construction. The project also involves the existing detention pond near Farley Middle School, which has become one of the trickier pieces of the job.
In an August City Council discussion about the project, city officials said an issue involving the Hutto ISD detention pond had stopped work for roughly a month while the city, district, engineers, and contractor worked through changes. Officials also discussed redesign work and temporary pedestrian routing around the school as construction progresses.
So if the dirt-moving around the park and school has looked especially extensive, that helps explain why. It’s primarily about making sure the rebuilt roadway can properly handle stormwater and drainage.
And yes, that intersection is getting a roundabout
Probably the biggest change drivers will notice when this is all finished is at CR 137 and FM 1660.
The project calls for a two-lane spiral roundabout at the intersection, along with additional lanes for turning movements, pedestrian improvements, and drainage work.
That isn’t just a future wish-list item, either. The roundabout was included in the city’s construction bid for the project, and in March the City Council approved an $11.26 million Hutto Economic Development Corporation funding agreement specifically for construction of the CR 137/FM 1660 project.
The City also confirmed in May that construction was underway on CR 137, including work around the FM 1660 intersection.
Why all of this now?
This stretch of road is serving a very different Hutto than it did years ago.
You’ve got Farley Middle School, Adam Orgain Park and the Brushy Creek Amphitheater, nearby neighborhoods, and continued growth south of town all feeding traffic into what has historically been a fairly simple two-lane county road.
The city’s current mobility plan specifically identifies this section of CR 137 for an added lane, intersection improvements, and a turn lane serving the school.
That helps explain why what started years ago as a much smaller road project eventually became something much more substantial: the city isn’t simply repairing CR 137; it’s rebuilding the corridor for the amount of traffic and development now happening around it.
The bottom line
So, what’s all that construction by Adam Orgain Park?
Mostly, it’s CR 137 getting wider, drainage getting reworked, the area around Farley Middle School being adjusted, and the CR 137/FM 1660 intersection being prepared for a major redesign that includes a two-lane roundabout.
It’s messy right now — and some pieces have taken longer than planned — but when it’s finished, this stretch of south Hutto is going to look quite a bit different.
And now, at least, you know what all those excavators are doing.

Mostly accurate forecast until Texas decides otherwise.
We’ll flirt with triple digits to start the week before settling into the upper 90s through the weekend. Rain chances stay low, with plenty of sunshine around for Friday and Saturday — so apparently September has decided to keep pretending it’s August.
🌤️ Tue–Wed: Partly cloudy and scorching • Highs 99–100° • Lows 75–76°
🌤️ Thursday: A few more clouds, but still mostly dry • High 97° • Low 75°

🌤️ Sunday: Partly cloudy and hot • High 97° • Low 74°
👉 TL;DR: Summer isn’t leaving
